Amazing location for a top quality steak and some wonderful cocktails. Highly recommend the croquettes and scallops as an entree. Steaks we ordered were cooked to perfection with a sensational crust. Staff couldnt not be more attentive. Will definitely return.

We visited on a Saturday afternoon and it was surprisingly quiet, the food more than made up for it. Great variety of steaks and they were cooked to perfection. Service was attentive without being over bearing. We will be back for sure.

I ordered the 500g T-Bone, it was flavoursome and cooked as required. Note these steaks are all cooked on Woodfire, so if you don’t fancy a little “gamey” taste, you’ve been made aware. The complimentary side was limited to 1, with the servings being quite small. No sauce offered. It had a decent seating area overlooking the port, however the outdoor furniture can do with a clean.

Fantastic dining experience. We ordered the prime rib, T-bone steak, and lamb shank, and every dish was cooked perfectly. The prime rib was incredibly tender and full of flavour, the T-bone steak was juicy and seasoned just right, and the lamb shank was fall-off-the-bone with a rich, gravy-style sauce. The quality of the meat was excellent – you can really tell they take pride in sourcing and preparing their steaks. The buttery garlic potatoes were nice, however they had onion and capsicum mixed through them which wasn’t mentioned on the menu. Unfortunately that didn’t suit everyone at the table, so it would be helpful if that was listed. Service was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere made it a great place for a relaxed but premium dinner. Overall a fantastic meal and we’ll definitely be back. Highly recommend for anyone who loves a great steak.

We had a nice meal and have been before… The calamari and croquettes were tasty. We had a lovely bottle of Brokenwood Semillon and a Red Gate Shiraz. Staff seemed to wander with food, not sure where it was meant to go… wasn’t clear if sauces were included or extra - this was not clear on the printed menu either… last time we had the Tomahawk it felt special and they brought the raw steak out and caused a little bit of a fuss… this time… nothing.. ordered and it just arrived with no fanfare or consultation… our twenty something boys liked the extra attention… Both the normal rump and wagyu rump were nice- I couldn’t taste the difference.. We felt a bit rushed with appetisers and mains being served too quickly… food was tasty but there is room for improvement when you pay nearly $500 for four. We were given a booth and thanked our lucky stars not to be at the awkward tables where one chair seat towers over the other booth seat against the inside wall… awkward and I note they now have cushions to try to alleviate this but we still saw one couple ask to be reseated and they were…

Such a beautiful space to dine in. The staff were impeccable with their service. Went above and beyond for us. The steaks were small but delicious, however the burnt outside from the char grill was a little much, the taste carried through the whole piece of steak. Also a bit disappointing that there were more coeliac safe sides/ options, but a great dining experience over all.

Had a fabulous eye fillet for lunch, cooked perfectly. Great salad and the chips were excellent. Great atmosphere sitting outside overlooking the water. Staff were friendly, attentive but not overly so.

Nestled on the scenic Honeysuckle Drive in Newcastle, Meat & Grain Steakhouse offers a truly memorable dining experience for steak lovers and food enthusiasts alike. This restaurant is celebrated for its woodfire-cooked steaks, bringing a distinctive, smoky depth to every cut. Among the standout dishes, Little Joe’s Scotch Fillet demands special attention—richly marbled, tender, and cooked with a perfect crust that showcases the skillful precision behind every grill.

The passion for quality sourcing and preparation is evident across the menu. From the succulent 500g T-Bone to the melt-in-your-mouth prime rib and fall-off-the-bone lamb shank, every entrée highlights a robust and authentic flavor profile. The steaks’ woodfire technique delivers a subtle gamey undertone, adding character and nuance without overpowering the natural meat sweetness. Accompaniments such as buttery garlic potatoes and expertly crafted croquettes and scallops elevate the meal, though diners should be aware of some menu details like mixed vegetables in sides not always clearly communicated.

Service at Meat & Grain strikes a balance between attentive and unobtrusive, allowing guests to savor their meal and the relaxed, port-facing atmosphere. While there is room for refinement—such as clearer menu descriptions, sauce offerings, and timing between courses—the overall hospitality complements the premium dining atmosphere well. Meat & Grain Steakhouse Newcastle succeeds not just as a steak destination, but as a venue where the craft of meat and grain meets genuine culinary passion.
